Angelica Root Organic - Packaged
Angelica Root (Angelica archangelica), also known as Masterwort or Wild Celery, is a biennial herb from the Apiaceae (Parsley) family, native to northern Europe and the Middle East, celebrated for its aromatic and mystical qualities. Its warming, drying, sweet, and pungent energetics contribute to its actions as an alterative, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, nervine, stimulant, stomachic, and tonic. The musky, licorice-like roots, rich in essential oils like α-pinene and furocoumarins, are used to flavor liqueurs (e.g., Chartreuse, gin), teas, and candied stems, while traditionally supporting digestion, respiratory health, and nervous skin disorders. Historically, it was used to combat alcoholism, though modern evidence for this is lacking, and it was believed to ward off evil and resist poisons in Medieval times.
Use with caution, as large doses may affect blood pressure and respiration or stimulate the nervous system, and it’s contraindicated for those with diabetes, fever, heavy menstrual bleeding, or during pregnancy due to its uterine stimulant effects.*
