Allspice (Pimenta dioica), also known as clove pepper, Jamaican pepper, myrtle pepper, newspice, or pimento, is a versatile spice from the Myrtaceae family, native to the Caribbean and Central/South America. Renowned for its pungent, warming, and drying energetics, allspice offers a complex flavor reminiscent of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, making it a staple in culinary traditions worldwide. Historically, European explorers introduced allspice from Jamaica to Europe in 1494, while the Aztecs used it to flavor chocolate and the Mayans employed it as an embalming agent. Its actions include antioxidant, antiseptic, aromatic, astringent, carminative, digestive, stimulant, stomachic, and styptic properties, traditionally used to aid digestion and combat inflammation.*
